How Much Does Corporate Catering Cost in Malaysia? 2025 Price Guide

✍️ RunningMen Kitchen📅 May 2025⏱ 7 min read

One of the first questions every event planner asks when budgeting a corporate event is: how much will catering cost? The honest answer — it depends on several factors. But this guide gives you a clear, realistic breakdown of corporate catering prices in Malaysia as of 2025, so you can budget confidently and avoid surprises.

The 3 Pricing Tiers

🟢 Budget Tier

RM 12 – RM 22 / pax

Lunch boxes, simple rice sets, basic tea breaks. Suitable for internal team events, training days, and cost-conscious organisations. Limited menu variety but fills the room reliably.

🟠 Mid-Range Tier

RM 28 – RM 45 / pax

Full buffet catering with multiple protein, vegetable and dessert options. The most popular range for corporate events in KL. Includes setup and basic serving equipment. Good for client-facing events, AGMs, and team celebrations.

🟡 Premium Tier

RM 50 – RM 100+ / pax

Premium buffet with wider menu selection, waitress service, table decorations, and professional setup. Best for annual dinners, executive events, and high-profile client functions.

What Affects the Price?

1. Pax Count

Larger events generally get better per-pax pricing. An order for 200 pax will typically cost less per person than one for 30 pax, because logistics, transport, and setup costs are spread across more people.

2. Menu Selection

Premium proteins (prawns, fish fillet, lamb) cost significantly more than chicken-based dishes. If budget is tight, choose chicken and tofu proteins — the most cost-effective options that still taste great.

3. Serving Staff

Waitress service adds approximately RM3–RM8 per pax depending on the caterer. For a 100-pax event, that's an additional RM300–RM800. Worth it for formal events; skip it for casual team lunches.

4. Equipment and Setup

Basic chafing dishes, serving tables, and tablecloths are usually included in mid-range packages. Fully dressed buffet tables with flowers, skirting, and premium tableware command a premium.

5. Travel Distance

Caterers typically have a service zone. Events far from the caterer's base (e.g., in Rawang, Klang, or Kajang) may incur transport surcharges of RM50–RM150.

6. Weekend and Public Holiday Premium

Many caterers in KL charge a 10–20% surcharge for weekend events, especially on Saturdays and Sundays. Public holidays carry higher surcharges. Book early to lock in weekday pricing for weekend events.

💡 Budget Tip: The biggest cost saving lever is choosing chicken over seafood. Swapping a prawn dish for a chicken dish can save RM3–RM8 per pax — significant at scale. On a 150-pax event that's RM450–RM1,200 saved with zero impact on guest satisfaction.
